What is the most cost effective way to get a 20mph cart?
I currently have a 1983 Marathon Resistor cart (bought for $400 about a year ago) with bad batteries. I have a goal of 20mph, level street driven only. I would like to do the 48V conversion to my Resistor cart, but from what I have researched it is less expensive to just buy a new cart with a controller. I have read a lot about the TXT models and the upgrades availible, but they tend to be fairly expensive in my area.
Is a TXT really the best option for the money? Wouldn't I be able to upgrade a Marathon with a controller for about the same cost, except the Marathon is cheaper to start off with? What years of Marathon have a controller? Thanks for the help. |

Be sneaky!Get a newer drivetrain donor-cart:motor,controller,axle,etc and swap into your cart.Modern technology with old-school looks. That will grab some attention!

Lol. Have you done this? Haven't seen a whole lot of "donor carts" for sale. I guess I should be on the lookout.

Re: What is the most cost effective way to get a 20mph cart?
We are into "Gas-Carts" but just look around, check golf courses. Most of the larger courses rent their carts from a supplier,Try to locate the supplier, they may have wrecks,parts-carts,etc..Smaller courses usually own the carts and run them alot longer so they may have some laying around.Never hurts to ask.We bought 3 decent older carts this week,2 of them under 300 each, one was 800 with a engine problem that is worth 2-3 times the purchase price.Craigslist is a good place too.Hope this helps.

The cart in my Pics is a 85 Marathon that was totalled, but had a fresh motor.I swapped the body for a 2000 TXT,built the lift-kit,dump-box,etc..Scrounged up some swap-meet tires and have less than a grand in whole cart!!

Most cost effective way? Strap it behind your car or truck and tell the driver to hit the gas!

Seriously ...... sell the marathon. Buy a PDS TXT and put a $5 freedom chip in it = 19 mph..... upgrade the controller= 24mph ..... Getting modernized = priceless

Put newER batteries in the Marathon, price gouge and sell it. Then buy a PDS cart like scottyb said!
