99 No power on hills
Bought an ezgo with Robbins engine. Sounds good and runs fine on flat ground. Real hard time climbing a hill, keeps going and climbs it but slows to a crawl? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 99 No power on hills
Start with making sure the belt is in good condition and the clutches are working properly.
Remove the belt from the rear clutch. Grab both sides of the clutch sheaves and twist them apart. It should be fairly tight. Let go and they should “slam” back together pretty hard. If it doesn’t do as explained, then the rear (driven) clutch needs rebuilt or replaced. Rebuilding it (spring and ramp shoes) isn’t super expensive but not the easiest to fight the spring taking it apart and putting it back together. A new 28 degree driven clutch will help considerably with torque/climbing and runs around $175-200 bucks new on Amazon for an aftermarket one. I’ve used a few of those and not had any problems. |

Should cave mentioned, new rear clutch. I also replaced spark plugs. No change.

How is your belt?
What does your compression look like? |

Re: 99 No power on hills
Gonna check that next. I’m wondering if it could be the primary clutch

Compression on both cylinders over 150. Cleaned up primary clutch. Driven clutch is aftermarket. Wondering if it’s junk?

Re: 99 No power on hills
Very unlikely the primary clutch would cause loss of torque unless the sheaves are really dished out.
Did you get a 34 or 28 degree rear/driven clutch? What kind of belt do you have? The aftermarket belts don’t tend to work very well on these carts. And 150 isn’t bad but also not ideal. Have you tried adjusting the valves? What kind/brand of spark plugs did you install? |
