Default Melted Battery Post

My neighbor has a ’07, 48V Ez-Go that he bought used last year. While cruising around the subdivision last week, the last battery post, (+) terminal, in the series MELTED! There was nothing left but a pool of lead. The batteries are only 4 months old. The cart came with a speed chip, upgraded motor, radio, lifted, etc... He is not very handy, so I am trying to help him out. I am relatively handy, just not too familiar with newer vintage carts. It sounds like a current issue, but I do not l know what to check or where to start.
Any suggestions of where to start to find the cause of the meltdown? What other information is needed to help?

Thanks!

Melted posts are caused by a loose connection ..... eventually the amperage begins arcing across the loose pieces until the heat from the arc melts the post. There is a fix...... Oh, and check the water and cables connection once a month

I'm sure some other will chirp in with good suggestions for the cart specific, but for the record, when I've seen a melted post, it was determined that it was caused by a loose/corroded connection which then started the arcing and melt down.
