16 to 12 volt converter problems
I'm trying to install a 16 to 12 volt converter on an '03 Club Car DS. This converter is the "New" 2 wire version from BU, not the conventional 5 wire version. As instructed I landed one wire on the neg. terminal of battery #6. When I meter the other wire on the converter (-) and the pos. terminal on batt. #5 I should see 12vdc, but I'm still seeing 16vdc. The limited instructions say that I cannot have more than 10 mv on the frame or more than 15k ohms from either the + or - main cable from the cart while these cables are disconnected from the batteries. It looks like I'm okay on the resistance but I'm not sure what they are saying about the mv. How/from where is that measured? Does anyone have a fix if there are millivolts present?

Re: 16 to 12 volt converter problems
MY GUESS is that you would have to isolate the mounting from the frame if MVs are present?

Thanks Scotty. Any guidance on metering the MV's? Where do I put my meter leads?

Re: 16 to 12 volt converter problems
Are you reading the input to converter? If you hook it to 2 8v batteries you will always get the 16v input. Make sure you are measuring the output of converter. Good luck.

nothin strange about it .if you hook it up right the output will read 16 volt ,now turn on your headlights the output voltage will drop to 12 - 12.5 v.

Re: 16 to 12 volt converter problems
Finally spoke with tech support, the "cart doctor", at BU and the instruction was to clean the batteries, cables and all connections to alleviate this problem. They also said that the 10 millivolts is what they deem as the optimal scenario. The reducer will work okay with 3 or 4 Vdc to the frame. After cleaning all of this I'm getting better reduction and, indeed, with the 12v devices pulling current the voltage is okay. Thanks for the input!
