Default 96 Club Car DS 48V motor type confusion.

So I recently purchased this cart as a non runner. I am trying to determine if it is series or sepex. From reading I see that there were a couple years (96-97?) of carts that didn't have run/tow switches which it appears that mine does not. Looking at the guides to determine motor type I don't see my controller pictured and also all of my armature and field studs appear to be the same size and I have a 3 wire sensor on the end of the motor. Any help in determining the motor type and controller type would be greatly appreciated.

to BGW

If your motor has a wire coming off the end, it's a sepex (regen) motor. And if you don't have a run/tow switch, the cart is a Regen 1.

A motor with a sensor on the end is a Sepex motor.
You also have a small rocker switch for FnR.
Like Jake said, a Sepex cart from that era without a Run/Tow switch is a Regen 1 cart, which would have a Black controller originally. Mounted upside down on a plate above/in front of the motor.
Those controllers are known for being unreliable, and if it hasn't been changed out yet, it may need to soon.
Post some pics of your motor and controller and we can better tell you what you have.

Ok here are some pictures. Looks to me as if someone has already had the controller opened up as there is silicon squishing out from the seams of the case. I have my doubts that it is shipped from the factory that way. Be nice if I was wrong though 😄 Also wondering if you might know what the red wire that isn't connected is? I am looking at the wiring diagram but it is hard to see on my phone.

You have a sepex Regen 1.

If you want to get that cart running your best bet is to contact Dave at "Revolution Golf Cars."

As far as the red wire, where is it coming from?

So is this setup sort of the "red headed step child" since it seems it was produced for a limited number of years?

Yep exactly. You’d be best off converting it to an IQ system. You’d just have to change out the wiring harness and controller, you could use your existing motor.

I see a repair done on one of the studs on that motor. That stud was probably broken off at some point and someone stuck a thread junction on there. It’s an OK idea for short term but I would have to wonder if that motor is just worn out by now. That’s probably a “guide ring” motor and they get a bit clunky and make some bad vibration when the guide ring wears out. It’s a decent motor, but that one may need some attention.
How much money ya got?

That extra red wire, does it look like it goes to a small fuse holder?

I noticed that too, but I thought maybe this guy has had enough bad news for one day.
