Adjust Onward front suspension tension - could this work?
Still considering ways to soften my factory-lifted Onward's front suspension, which is pretty stiff because of lithium batteries (was fairly stiff to start with, for that matter...)
The cart is 317 lbs. lighter than it was stock. I wonder if cutting the spacer in the photo down a bit would help, w/out causing other issues? The spacer is currently 1-1/16" tall, and I'm thinking about replacing them with ones that are 1/2-3/4" tall (instead of cutting up the stock ones). I may have to change the camber a little - we'll see - but does anybody have thoughts on if this might allow a little easier movement in the front suspension before the resistance of the leaf gets so tight? Any other considerations? Won't take long to try it as I think I found some 1/2" and 3/4" steel spacers that should be a perfect fit, but thought I'd throw it out here. My other thought if this doesn't help would be to buy a replacement leaf for the front, and carefully grind down the thickness of the top (shorter) leaf on each side - I'm thinking take out around 20% of the thickness - so as to hopefully make the entire thing more compliant (less stiff). Any thoughts on either possibility? |

I’m not sure if shortening that link would make that much of a difference. What I would do is try removing that shorter leaf that’s on top of the main leaf. I did that once on a lift kit and it made a world of difference.

My concern with that was that if the single leaf broke, it could be bad if you were going fast (likely that it would break going over a large bump, and probably may not be going fast though unless you just weren't paying attention). Not sure how likely one breaking would be, and I don't ride off-road either. Rear springs are a single, and probably wouldn't be good if one of those broke either though... |

It takes a lot of force to break a leaf spring, you should be fine removing the helper spring.

I think I may remove the top leaf and see what that does for the ride. Thanks for your input. |
