1995 EZGO Dana Axle rebuild
My cart is 20 years old. Rear end is giving me no noticeable trouble, but is it time to rebuild? I am thinking that at least the axle bearings should be replaced as I expect they have never been repacked or replaced. There are a mess of bearings in the DANA housing, but I assumed these have been 'splashed' regularly by the gear oil. Recommendations and thoughts please. Looks like a project that requires special tools too. Has anyone had this done by a local golf cart shop?

Can't help out with any info but just had to reply. Back in the mid '80s I worked for Dana and assembled these axles. Can't remember much about them though.

Here's some info on a rear end rebuild That will show you how it's done
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tml#post658807 Pull the motor off. Remove # 23 Retaining Ring, then pull out # 12, the input shaft, Bearing #15 and 16 will come out with the shaft. Check # 20 the O ring before you reinstall the input shaft , |

If there are no strange noises, no odd vibrating or hitching at speed leave it alone. No good comes of fixing something that wasn't broken.

I would at least change the differential oil. By changing it and looking at the oil coming out you'll have a better idea of wear.

Re: 1995 EZGO Dana Axle rebuild
Can the input shaft bearings be replaced without pulling the Dana Axle apart?
