Default volt meter and rocker switch

Can I hook my digital volt meter directly to the 48v batteries and place a rocker switch inline to enable me to shut off the meter while the cart is on?

I have a 25amp switch on hand that I can use if so, is there any specifics needed for the switch itself?

thanks

You can use a 1 amp switch if you can find one that small.

ok thanks.

the switch I have is a 3 prong, I have the meter wired direct to positive and negative of the 48v system, how should the switch be wired in?

I know the switch would normally have power in to one terminal, the accessory to another and ground to the third but with just the meters pos/neg terminals I'm not sure if the swith should be grounded...

on a 3 post switch you have positive in, positive out (accessory) and ground
ground usually lights the switch
you would use the positive in and positive out (accessory )

I'm guessing a the center pin and any end pin would work as an on/off switch - check it out with your meter... As for how to wire it? Cut one of the meter wires and connect the 2 freshly cut wires to the switch

center pin and the non ground pin
ground is usually copper
run wire from 48v + to switch then to red wire on meter
or 48v - to switch then to black wire on meter
