Default 2002 TXT 36 Volt only goes slow after repairing the motor

I replaced the spline on the electric motor on a TXT. Job went smooth. I put the motor back in and wired it up. The motor started fine for about 30 feet, then seemed to slow to a much lower speed.
1. Have I miswired the motor?
2. Have I messed up this thing beyond recognition?
Thanks
