99' Club Car DS - Best Upgrades for speed? (Updated Info)
I started a new thread, because some of the info in my old thread was incorrect. I bought this cart at a swap meet from a guy that flips golf carts. he said he tinkered and fixes them up and sells them for new projects.
'99 Hunter Green Club Car DS SN# A9908-7480XX Here is all I know about my cart: Lift kit, with 23" A/T tires Extra flip seat on the back No stereo. Has Turn Signals, Brake Lights, and Head Lights 48v system, with fresh Duracell Ultra batteries Forward/Reverse is a switch besides my right knee No Tow/Run switch to be found Battery Cables are roughly 1/4" including the mylar jacket Motor P/N: 102237701 Motor Model #: 5BC59JBS6360 Voltage: 48v Horsepower: 3.10 Special Service UPDATE: Already has a new looking Alltrax Controller Installed Label says it is programmable 300A AXE4834 - R8 07/27/15 Also had a new Allbright solenoid installed. Oriented vertically on the side with the barcode - SOHD1215001433 (Part Number I think - its pretty cramped) Club Car 5W805-1494P 48V PO - Looks like the 2000+ model by them, online says it is 400A continuous, with 800A peak This unit runs 13-14 mph on flat ground, and I would like it to be a little bit faster, as well as have a little more torque if possible. Cart will really only haul myself and my wife (400# total), on mostly flat ground with the occasional slight hill or muddy ditch excursion. It has pretty good low speed, low end torque right now. Where would you start with the upgrades to get the most bang for the buck? Upgraded Wires to 2g - Definite Upgrade, first on the list Heavy Duty F/R Controller - 2nd on the list, mine is pretty corroded Knowing that the controller and solenoid are new, would they need upgrading right away if I just wanted 50% more speed out of this thing? The controller says it is programmable - any chance that there is more performance left in it (wishful thinking knowing it is only 300a)? Should that solenoid be able to handle the upgrades as well? I'm thinking after the wired and F/R, to do speed gears (thanks theboss20 for the recommendation), and then moving on to the motor. Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks in Advance! |

Re: 99' Club Car DS - Best Upgrades for speed? (Updated Info)
I think the original control on this Series drive cart was 300a. So the Alltrax is just a replacement not an upgrade control. Below is a quote from my website. You can read more about upgrading series drive carts here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/tech-help-upgrades.html
A bigger speed control will allow the motor to access more amperage. The motor will use this additional amperage to make more torque which will help in the power department but it will not increase top end speed Aftermarket motors built for more torque or more speed or a combination of both torque and speed are available. I would not increase gear ratio and expect the stock 3.5 hp motor to handle the increased load that would create throughout the acceleration. So a gear ratio increase should be used with a more powerful motor in my opinion |

Safe to assume the 300A controller is set to its max setting already, correct?

That's a pretty safe bet. Especially if it is an NPX non programmable model
