Default Re: Scottyb question about a hi-low beam switch

LEDs work on current not voltage, the purpose of the LED current driver circuit is to provide a "constant" current source for the LED array regardless the range or fluctuations in input voltage.

Auxbeam is one of the better inexpensive LED bar manufacturers, as long as the Auxbeam brand is etched on the unit as there are many knockoffs.

The unit should definitely draw more current at 12v than it would at 30v, so the wiring needs to be done accordingly to the supply voltage.

If the light got brighter by design (???), then it should be fine, otherwise the poor current regulation could lead to a much shorter life span.

Sergio - I got this auxbeam here > https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ....installed.

Is this the type of light that can be made brighter by increasing voltage supply?

In my opinion any LED light bar that gets brighter by applying higher voltages is likely using low quality LED drivers and it will lead to a shortened lifespan.

The auxbeam site however has some curious power specification ranges that could either indicate the use of inefficient linear drivers or somehow is part of their design.

I sent them a support request asking for an explanation/clarification of the relation between output brightness and input voltage for the light You bought, I will post the answer when I get it.

I received a reply from auxbeam, the 2nd question was if I needed to run them at the upper voltage range to get the rated lumen output:

Quote:
Thanks for your interest in Auxbeam LED lights. For your questions.1st: voltage 12V-32V are keep same brightness. 2nd:the light output will not influence the voltage. within 12V-24V can working stable.

Hope you will like Auxbeam lights. Waiting for your news.

I would run them at 12v and spread the load accross the entire pack using the 48v-12v reducer.
