Default Brake switch hook up

I recently bought a 2014 ezgo rxv and wanted to hook up a brake light switch. Watched a couple videos online so I pulled up the floor and there is no place to plug the switch into. I assume this must not be a factory wire harness. It has brand new led lights on it. Any ideas if I can tell what brand light kit it is. Also in the well next to the accelerator pedal I have 5 wires not connected with connectors on the ends and tags labeled 1,2,3,nc and common

There is no need for a brake light switch. The controller handles brake light operation. Under the rear (facing the seat) of the cupholder, there are 3 thin nuts, one in the center and one on each corner, that you remove with a 10mm socket. Carefully pop the top off and look for a vertical rib in the center. The relay mounts to a hole in this rib. Here are photos of the rib, relay socket, and relay from my RXV.

Bob this is NOT a factory wire harness. These lights were added to the cart so its a separate wire harness. I thought I would have to add a switch because these light and harness don't tie into factory wiring. I'm probably wrong I'm sure. I think I was told it was madjax light and harness. I have 5 leads/wires labled 1,2,3, nc and com down by accelerator pedal going nowhere.

Regardless of the make of your accessory harness, the factory RXV main harness has 2 lugs under the cupholder to power the 24V relay coil of the relay that turns the brake light on and off. The two wires, one is red and the other is violet. A Bosch style automotive relay with a 24V coil is what is used. I bought a couple of them from eBay and tested one, it worked great. I will tell you the same thing that others will. Not all 24V relays will work right. It depends upon the coil impedance. If it is a true Bosch style relay with a 24V coil that matches the Bosch 24V coil specification, it should work. The ones I bought were...

There is a Brake Light PWM setting in the controller that allows the relay drive to be adjusted, and at what amount of brake pedal application it turns on the brake lights.

So just buy this and plug it in? I just don't understand how a separate light circuit will energize the brake lights but that price I cant complain. I don't think at any given point the new light circuit is tied to any of the existing wiring

Yea you would have to wire the relay contacts, Common (30) to your 12V lighting power source, and Normally Open (87) to your brake lights. The red and violet wires from the RXV Main harness would connect to coil connections (85) and (86). Polarity on the coil does not matter.

Your aftermarket tail lights may have the brake lights on both sides wired to the tail light circuit. However, if your lighting kit had the turn/brake light option, that may be brought out to those wires you mentioned earlier.

Where are you located?

I am located in Connecticut. I'm a little confused with the wiring because I don't want to burn anything out. I do Heating and cooling for a living and know wiring pretty well but cart wiring is new to me and don't want to burn anything out

Not sure if you have a Napa in Conn but I bought a couple of 24 volt relays from them for a charger project I started on. Part # LIT1924 $11
