Whats your guys opinions on that? I can't do the 500 amp controller upgrades and a new motor right now so I kind of have to pick and choose lol
87Chevy,
I just went through this decision process with my Precedent.

The first thing you need to decide is if you want speed, torque or both. Do you have an MPH in mind?

Mine was doing 20-21 with an occasional 23 with a little tail wind. I had the speed code 4, with new battery's and 21" tires.

After emails, and text messages with ScottyB and Tahoedawg, they both came up with about the same configuration.

I am installing a 500 amp controller, an Admiral A2 Motor, 400 Amp solenoid and 2 AWG cables.

I am expecting 27-28 MPH, and hoping for 30. The new motor is 9 HP, the factory stock one is 3.3.

These guys I mentioned will help you figure out what you need whenever you know what you want.

It's a fun upgrade,

Yeah I was kind of hoping to have my cart around the 20-22 MPH mark on flat roads and like 16-17 maybe 18 going up hills with 4 people. Also which motor did you change over to?

Go with the controller first then later add the plumquick. If you do the motor first it will under powered. I did my 700 amp controller and wires first. Then after i added my PQ later. There is only so much cart money ...

I have to agree the DS has a classic look like an old muscle car. I found David (Tahoedawg) here and my 2000 DS transformation began. My stock motor went bad so I was forced to make a big decision much sooner than I planned. I went with a 500 amp alltrax controller, Admiral motor, HD solenoid and IQ wire conversion kit with MCOR 4. Yes, I spent more for this upgrade than I paid for the cart but I know what's under the hood. Take your time, talk to the experts and do it right.

Yeah I think that I am leaning towards keeping mine and building it faster. Now i have also heard the fact that it is lifted slows it down, is that true what everyones thoughts on dropping the cart back down to sock height and maybe making my wheels and tires smaller?

I think you will be glad you did. Lifting a cart has no effect on speed unless you change the diameter of the tires. On level ground you could realize a few more mph with taller tires but you will sacrifice torque. Pulling a hill you may go slower with the taller tires because of the torque loss. If speed is your goal, a lower cart will be more safe. Get the speed with a motor/controller upgrade.

Looking forward to hearing about your build, if that is the decision you make.

I don't know if lifted carts are slower, but they can be less stable.

As somebody else mentioned, contact TahoeZ71 or ScottyB for help configuring your upgrades.

unfortunately your motor is the weak link in the chain, 500 amp controller will help very little because your motor is limited....you can hook a fire hose up to your garden hose... but at the end of the day your still squirting water with your garden hose. IMO save up the money and do the complete controller motor upgrade, you wont be disappointed. I would stay with the DS, precedents have regenerative braking which will eventually wear out and you will be buying a motor anyway.

If a motor upgrade is in your future but not in your budget, get the biggest controller you can and dial it down until the motor comes.
