New brake shoes not marked..lead? trail?
I am replacing the brake shoes on a 2002 DS. The shoes I purchased have NO marks of L or T. Which goes on the forward side of the cart and which on the rear? I can't look at the old shoes...I think they were replacements put on wrong.
I installed the shoes, (not sure that they are on correctly) and now the drum does not fit over the shoes. I'm sure you can give me some simple advice on how to align the shoes and adjust them so the drum will fit. Thanks, grandkids are coming to the farm for Christmas and driving the cart is a big deal to them...but it needs brakes. |

Re: New brake shoes not marked..lead? trail?
You probably have both leading on one side and both trailing on the other.
Since they are not marked you will have to look closely at the shoes. See this post as it explains the leading trailing issue. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...e-install.html There is not much difference in lengths and the leading shoe is 1/16 " longer. The leading shoe goes to the rear. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...rake-shoe.html |

Thanks for the info and redirect. The first shoe took a couple hours (reversed, upside down, on/off, etc). Once we got it right, doing the other side took about 10 minutes. I doubt I will ever use this learning/skill again, but we got it right this time. Brakes work good.

The drum isn't fitting over the shoes because the self-adjuster has to be manually turned back down to allow for the thicker material of the new shoes. You can eventually force it if you're persistent but turning the adjuster back in is much simpler.
I don't remember how I determined which shoe was lead accept that once I had them in place, something was visibly evident as to which was which. |
