Default Buggie runs fine, then dies.

Hello everyone,

I have a 1986 EzGo TXT. I just put 6 new batteries in it, painted it, installed a radio and head lights, and re upholsterer the seats. I took it out to the camp ground a few weeks ago. Took it out for two decent size cruises, under ten minutes each time. Everything was working fine.

Fast forward to this weekend. The father in law is driving it, after about 5 minutes the cart dies. Pushes it back to the camp spot. He let it sit for about 2 hours while he was looking it over. He made sure all the batteries were tight and nothing was unhooked. Tried the cart again and it started right up. Not for long though, only went about 100 feet and died again.

All the batteries are reading over 5.9 volts. Like I said all the connections are tight on the batteries and nothing looks like its unhooked.

Any idea's fellas? Is something over heating? Could something be hooked up wrong and just now messing up?

At 5.9v the batteries are dead. Charge until charger shuts off automatically.

So it would still run even if the batteries were dead/dying?

ok.. just checked the batteries again.. 34.4. So the batteries are dead. The charge must not be working then.

You are putting the hurt on your new batteries. Get them recharged ASAP. check your charger connections and verify the pack voltage is rising under charge.

Will do. Thank you sir. Im not sure the charger is working. The charger was humming, but the meter stayed at zero. Could the batteries already be past the "reading" voltage for the charger to come on?

Scott is 100% correct! See if you can borrow another charger. This will tell you if it's connections in your cart or that your charger has failed. Double check the connections at your dc receptacle on the cart and where they are connected to the batteries. If it's your charger, it is repairable and the parts are available.

I will check to see if anyone else around has a charger and check the connections. Thanks a lot

i agree first try a different charger...but if the 2nd one doesn't charge then your total pack voltage could be so low that the charger won't turn on. you will need to charge each battery individually until they reach a higher pack voltage....then maybe your charger will turn on. you can also charge 2 at a time using 12v trickle charger. these are the things I did to get a low set of batteries back up to running condition. did you not charge the cart after the first day of run around?

easiest way to charge a cart is if you have another cart find the end of the pack on each cart plug in the charger on the cart with dead batteries and use jumper cables put red jumper cable on positive, black on negative on each cart charger comes on almost instantly make sure you hook them up properly and put carts in tow ,done this hundreds of times
