Melted battery post
I have a ezgo 36 volt I believe it's a 2000 model . Got new batteries and 4ga wires and now the positive wire going to silenoid is getting super hot . My son drove the cart for a long time is when I noticed the post has melted some. Any idea as to what my problem might be? Thanks

Re: Melted battery post
Ron, this may seem like a silly question, but just so we are clear.....did you replace ALL the cable in teh cart with 4 ga. or just the battery pack cables?
oh and btw..... Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: Melted battery post
ALL high current cables need to be upgraded to at least 4Ga.
A Series drive cart has 13 of them. A PDS drive cart has 10 of them. |

Re: Melted battery post
Ron,
The advice on the cable replacement is good, but your original problem was caused by a poor connection. It could have been (or still is) between the battery post and the cable end or a bad cable end due to a poor crimp and/or solder job. ANY connection that gets hot must be fixed immediately, not "real soon now". Even the stock 6 guage cables shouldn't get more than slightly warm. |
