Need help identifying type of controller
So the previous owner of my ezgo told me he replaced the controller almost a year ago when the old one crapped out on him. He didn't know anything about what he purchased other than it cost him around $500. Knowing the guy and his skill level I assume he took it somewhere and had it installed and probably some of that went to labor. My question is how can I tell if it's a stock replacement or did he somehow opt for or got upgraded to a better controller? It's black with no markings and the solenoid is blank and chrome. What can I look for or can I test anything? I'd hate to buy an upgraded one if I somehow already have one. Here's a pic of it.

Re: Need help identifying type of controller
that appears to be a stock style "curtis" brand seperately excited motor controller. not super durable, if needs replaced, get something better (alltrax dcx). if it has no label, it prob is a rebuild, new or rebuild, not much chance it is any better than the original was.

Re: Need help identifying type of controller
Yep - that appears to be a stock controller for a DCS cart. (Curtis 1206SX).
New or otherwise, they have a high failure rate due to not having any under-voltage protection. With a DCX400 and a 200A solenoid, you'll have a cart with a lot of torque and speed at 36V and more of both with a higher pack voltage. |

Re: Need help identifying type of controller
thanks a lot for the info guys. that's what I assumed it was but didn't want to spend several hundred dollars replacing it if it was worth anything. looks like a dcx400 is in my future

Re: Need help identifying type of controller
In the meantime, buy a digital volt meter from ScottyB, to possibly help avoid low voltage conditions, and maybe prolong the controller life, and definitely prolong battery life.
