Default Re: Volt meter install on RXV

I added two voltmeters to mine. One measures the entire 48V battery bank. The other measures the output of the DC-DC 12V converter. Each meter has a separate switch.

However, with the key off, both meters are off. I did this by using the main solenoid as the power source for the 48V meter, and also the power source input to the converter. So when the solenoid is off, everything is off.

I did run two new cables from the dash, to the battery compartment.

Done! I am going to replace the rocker switches with a different style. One controls the headlights and one controls the volt meter.

Keep us posted. Curious to know how the rocker switch holds up to 48 volts.

Anyone have more info on this? I'm installing a digital voltage meter like the one pictured on this post. I also am trying to install a switch so it's not on continuously. I have just been able to find 12v 30amp switches around town. I hooked it up and the switch seems to be running hot. I would hate to install this completely and then have a fire hazard in the dash.

If you are just running the volt meters, your 12v switch will be ok IF your switch doesnt have a light inside to indicate its on. The lighted 12v switches do melt on 48v.

I hooked up my 12v aux. battery and my 36v system to one digital voltmeter thru a DP-DT switch. I did use a marine switch. It works great and I can check either system or leave the switch in the off position. I only have one switch and one gauge, (cheaper) good luck.

from my '08 rxv
- you will find this connector behind the "dash" - right beside the key switch
- it has 3 wires... as remember when i tested it:

+ 48 - red
+ 3.3-5 - grey
- ground - black

- it's switched so the meter will be off when not in R-N-F
- i tested it and the 48 volt measures same as complete pack
- if you could find the male for this connector you could wire that and just plug in as you would with the factory analog meter
- anyone find a source for the male plug here would be appreciated too

Thanks. Got it working. This issue was I was trying to use a switch with a 12v led light. Swapped to a regular toggle and bravo.

0 volt = empty gas gauge, 5 volt = full gas gauge, 2.5 volt = 50% gas gauge. You get the idea. This plug does have everything needed to add a switched volt meter.

That's way kewl. In addition to actual volts, you could easily display SOC as a percentage 0 - 100.
