HD F/R switch
Ok, tried searching and reading, but not successfully. My search skills are definatly lacking today...
I've read about the lower temps, less resistance, etc... about larger wires, and resistance, but dont really get it So, what can I expect to gain, if anything from upgrading the F/R switch and wires on my stock 1991 series cart? More speed? Longer distance? More torque? |

In a stock cart that is 23 years old, you are very likely to be losing quite a bit of Torque, Speed and Range due to having excessive resistance in the high current cables, connections and contacts. If anything other than the motor and controller are getting more than a few degrees warmer than the ambient air temperature, you are loosing electrical energy that ought to be being converted to motion rather than heat. (Technically, any heat anywhere in the high current loop is lost energy, but every conductor has some resistance in it, so 100% efficiency cannot be reached.) A 1991 series cart had 6Ga high current cables, which are marginal at best just for driving on groomed golf course cart trails. The same is true for the contacts in the F/R switch and solenoid. Also, heat kills electrical stuff, so electrical stuff that runs cooler, lasts longer. Basically, anything that is getting overly warm needs to be fixed or replaced and when replacing stuff, replace it with better stuff. |
