Because when hydrogen plus oxygen plus a spark combine, the hydrogen burns, which creates water, an ash. Just be sure to duck before it happens.

I see you're new here. The problem was due to a custom body that made accessing the back cells difficult. There are special custom battery watering systems, like this, but they have had a bad reputation for literally exploding entire packs. I don't know how frequent or rare this is, but if you have an explosion in a single cell, that's one thing. If you have a six battery pack, you've now connected all 18 cells. For an 8 battery pack, you now have 24 cells all connected, so if you have H2 + O2 x 24 = BOOM.
