Default 86 ez-go marthon what motor or splines

hi
I just picked up a 86 marthon
and wonder if it has a 19 or older 10 spline motor connector ?
and if the axles are also 19 spline and if they fit/match
as then I could use an old axle for a jackshaft to a gas motor

Does the motor point front to back, or side to side?

Nota - I touched on this in my thread about my old motors, but I think 86 is the year that they changed. Its my understanding that they changed the motor style during the 86 year, and some will be 19 and some 10. I am certainly no authority on this subject, but have just picked up bits and pieces of information from this forum and other places.

I think the key is the direction it sits in relation to the axle. The old style 10 spline goes directly into the rear axle and sits at a 90 degree angle to it. The new style is parallel to the axle. So which way is your motor?

Everything I've written may be wrong, but I can tell you for sure that 81-84 used the 10 spline.

sideways like a fwd jap car
motor sits up above from the axle

what about the axle [inside steel rod] splines
do they fit the motor splines ? ie 19 count same diameter on the inner axle shaft
for jackshaft use

So, you a 19 spline motor, i dont think the splines on axleshaft will work in motor.

just found this

'''part Number: MT208

OEM Part Numbers - EZ 18686-G1, GE 5BC48JB815, 5BC48JB832

Item Description -
E-Z-GO Factory Original 3/4" Straight Keyed Shaft Motor for 1986-1/2 to 1987 only E-Z-GO, has threaded end on motor'''

is that my motor ?
are splines on the coupler to motor or the coupler to rear end input shaft or both

I kind of hope it is a 3/4 straight key shaft on the motor side of the coupler
as that will be eazyer to find/make for a jack shaft to a gas motor swap

I've always tapped the housing a few times on each side with a hammer, then tap the end of the motor itself. Tap, don't hit it hard. Tap it all the way around until you get a small amount of movement, and then the motor will slide out. Its probably been in there a long time and needs something to loosen everything up.

The trick is to hit it hard enough to loosen it, and easy enough not to damage anything.

got it apart
NO SPLINES AT ALL on the GE 2hp motor
it is the oddball 86 1/2 87 only motor
btw the standard way to pull a motor WILL NOT WORK
as the long shaft holds the gear with a nut and keyway
so you need to pull the whole motor by removing the axle cover inner bolts first
only then will you be able to get to the nut on the shaft's end to remove the gear
then pull the motor cover and remove the shaft bearing cover holder

anyway if anyone needs a long shaft that is 3/4'' and keyed for a pulley , gear, or sprocket this is the motor for that to add a el motor to a go cart mini bike or ???
see my ad in the for sale section
