G8 oil light
Hey guys, Question about the oil light on my G8. Should the light come on other than the oil being low? Never seen it on and didn't know if it should come on and go off when switched on like a car. Is there a way to test?

Re: G8 oil light
Its a oil level sensor on a yamaha, not a oil pressure sensor like a ezgo, or clubcar, or a automobile. If you are wondering if it works, do an oil change. It should come on when the oil is empty (key on or off), & turns off when oil is filled.

Re: G8 oil light
It should also come on when the key is turned slowly to the on position. Half way between on and off.

Re: G8 oil light
This only tests the bulb condition, a dirty float sensor often will be very slow to respond if it responds at all. In the end, doing an oil change, and observing the light operation, verifies the bulb & sensor operation.

Re: G8 oil light
Short answer, YES, they usually can be cleaned and restored to normal operation, But.... On all models prior to G16 (or early "yamahauler"), it can be done without motor disassembly, from the bottom of motor. Skidplate will be in the way for most models, requiring engine or skid plate removal (easier), but not "engine block opened up". G16 and newer require crankcase cover removal (drivers side of engine block), clutch removal, ect, ect. If you take the sensor out, oil will flood out, be warned of oil mess.
