well, depending on how much you want to remove...
you will need a lathe.., but i am sure you could use a bridgeport or surface grinder, just go slow and take very little at a time..
i took maybe 20% maybe a little less of the engines spinning weight..

any good machine shop can guide you with cutting,
i cut mine in a lath, took some off both sides..

might be a good idea to balance after, i never did and it is fine..

but this is one of the biggest HP gains..
there are other mods that are cheap, but NOTHING can compare to the power gain doing this, at least for what it cost, mostly time and a few buck to have cut.. also a good idea to put on a K&N and remove the old air box...
that will let the engine breath much better..the faster she revs, the faster and more air she will need....

this is good but lots of work to get the engine out...
but when done well worth the game...

but don't be fooled, this Don't double you HP.. but will rev up faster...

yes i do have a windshield, RPM....when i set it was between 4,200 to 4,400 could it have change a little over time maybe a little, the test i did today was on flat level ground, and i am sure i didn't get to full RPM, the road i am on is not long enough to and my golf carts not fast enough to out run a cruiser..but if i had a down hill and a tail wind....smokey the bear beware, i be running like the pants were on fire....lol... i know the GPS is with in .5 MPH when i compare to either one of my trucks, could it be off a bit yes, but not much if it is.... hope that helps....

Hey Sho, if you want airflow, toss out the air box all together and if you using a yami with a 1 1/2" carb flange, buy a K&N they sells 2 filter, 3 1/2" and a 4" that will clamp right on to the end of the carb, then just make a small bracket to support the end and clamp to one of the old box mount bolts... then you can just get a few small nuts and bolts to attach the out horn on the body for show.....

this is a must for a few reasons

1) performance

2) there cheap money compared to stock

3) most important, real easy to clean and change..

(buy 2 and then you can switch them and let it dry til the next change)

here is a couple links so you can choice a size that fits your needs
I prefer the tapered ones myself

and I drill a small hole on the end and install a bolt and nut so I can put a bracket with a wing nut on it to hold the end and it can't vibrate off...learn that the hard way, don't sound good when bouncing around on the clutch...

I have a 1990 G2 golf cart, mostly stock. All I did was lift it and put some lights on it. What would I have to do to get some more speed out of it. When I was lifting it, I had a brand new clutch put on it with a high performance clutch kit. With posi-traction, the mechanic told me the thing will climb anything because of the torque. What can I do to increase speed from the 9hp engine?

I ran a R-1050 inside the air box of my G14 it also fits inside a G2 or G9 box

reason is on its own it is too noisy on a campmground from intake noise

I had cut out a bit of the rear of the box to let more air in to compensate

http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...px?Prod=R-1050

you should also get the sock that goes over less maintenance

first thing, you have a new heavy duty clutch spring and new plate?
make sure you inside plate is sliding good, good time to grease..

1) if you don't have them put larger tires, that will increase speed (aluminum is prefered, they are lighter)

2 Check and adjust your RPM (i have a post showing how to do it)

3) i would remove the carb, clean and make sure it is in good shape, good time to polish the bore if nothing else (mother polish works great) maybe even open the bore, knife the blades, grind down some of the shaft width and change screws to flat button heads (use loctite)

4) i would mount a K&N Filter right to the carb with no air box (ad a support on end)

5) check and replace belt if there is any sign of wear. a lose belt will have slipage,

6) check the clutch plates, if there is any sign of rust or corrosion, now is a good time to clean it ( i use a steel wool to get the heavy stuff, them give a light wet sand with 1200 sand paper..til she looks new) this step is important to prep well, since you are going to make the plate go where they have never been before, if the surface is not clean and smooth it will wear out your belt very quick

7) drain all the oil good and buy some Mobil 1 30w, (yes 30w NOT 10w30)
they say 1qt, but i always go a little 38oz since the cart is lifted and the engine angle has been changed, make sure you are full to the top of the dip stick mark not the middle where 1 qt will put you.

THESE 7 STEPS WILL INCREASE WHAT YOU HAVE NOW
depending where your at, you can expect 5 to 10 miles and hour more
since you governor is a virgin, i say you should be looking to get 25+ mph
again depending on everything elsecould be more or less, depending on what you do and how you do it..

hope this helps

Hey Richie... Would the governor bypass on a G1 be ok or will it mess with the auto oil injector and smoke my motor? I will be in the market for a G9 or a G2 soon. Have to wait for the right deal... Wifes orders!

first to be honst, i never played with the 2 stock model.
but any 2 stokes that i have played with from avt's and jet ski's, i have also blocked of th oil injection for one big reason, i seen to many oil systems fail and then your up in smoke, or maybe i should say up with no smoke...
i have 4 seadoos's we use 2001 2-2005 and a 2006 and and a Polaris trail blazer and scambler that i have removed the oild system and i pre-mix all my fuel. i would think that yamaha system is pretty good, i never heard of any that have failed, but i don't think there are to many left around these days..i never had any one bring on in in 8 years of playing with golf carts...
i like a 2 stokes they are so simple engines to work,

for me to answer your question i have to see one, but the oil system will have to work on one of two principals, either a cable to the oil pump or it works on vacuum.. i have to know that first.... if it run on a cable the answer would be mayb....., if it is run by a vacuum, them no, the vacuum would still be there no matter how you adjust your governor...

but i am sure now that you have ask, there is someone here that has one and with the knowledge to give you better answer...

sorry i could help..
