Default Questions about rear bearings removal...

Hello,
I am new to the bearing removal and am trying to do them for myself for the first time. I was trying to do one at a time. I have the hub off of the back passenger wheel. I was wandering if anybody could explain the steps to take bearings out. Do I take the pin out of brake line and disconnect? Then,Do I take the 4 bolts with nuts off of back side of shoe next? Can I do it without any type of special puller? I have a bit of sockets, wrenches, pliers, stuff like that, but no pullers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you have to do is pull the brake drum off. Inside is a washer, take that out. Now there is a retaing clip, use some snap ring piers and remove. Then grab the axle and pull. thats it... some times you really have to yank but it will com out. No snap ring in the diff.

Just wanted to add to that the bearing is pressed onto the axle. It will need to be pressed off and the new one pressed on...

Thanks for the info. I got one side out. I had to go get some Snap pliers. I got to the oil seal and it was like it was jammed in good. I am putting back in now. I am hoping I got new oil seal in far enough. I'll keep you posted. Thanks gain.

Well, I did the back bearings and took for a spin. One back ones looked really good, so I left it alone.I sure thought that's what it was that had the chirping like sound when I get faster going down the road. It must be something with the breaks. When I had put the drum back on and tired to spin them, it did make a scrub like sound about once a full spin. I put a little brake cleaner around the inside. It must be something with the brake shoes scrubbing. I'll have to try to figure it out.

Hi all I am also trying to replace the bearings. I followed the instructions in this thread however the axle will not come out. The parts manual shows another retaining clip behind the bearing could that be why it will not come out? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Chonch , yeah I ran into that too. There is one right before the oil seal.

they do get stuck in there. often turning the brake drum around backwards and using it as a slide hammer works.
