Re: G9 has no spark
Just tried old coil, both without caps on, and it still will not turn over with the coil connected, if i remove the red or the orange wire, it will turn over. Does the coil pull enough juice that the cart will not turn over with it connected, or do i have a very, very, wierd problem?

Re: G9 has no spark
Have you tried the jumper wire on the ground? Just looking good sometimes can still be problems. I have had this same problem happen and it was 3-4 hrs and a pissy grounding issue, that's probably why it runs sometimes and not ? JMO but hey give it a try.

Re: G9 has no spark
Is that what the orange wire going back to the ignitor is? can i come off of that side to a known good ground and test that way?

Re: G9 has no spark
Your problem is beyond me at this point. You need to study a wire diagram. It's just a wire I still believe. Put the spark plug boot on, and on the plug.
Or a short in the wire harness. |

Re: G9 has no spark
The orange wire on the coil is the ground side, however the ignitor controlls the ground causing a magnetic field to build and collapse on the primary winding of the coil, thus inducing a magnetic field also on the secondary winding and high voltage at the spark plug terminal. Check the voltage on the r/w wire at the starter relay with the r/w wire connected at the coil and also with it disconnected from the coil. There must be a voltage drop some where along the r/w wire path that is causing the voltage to drop to a level where the starter relay will not operate. Normally the coil will not cause this. Check the wires and connections from the fuse to the on/off switch (red wire) to the accelerator stop switch (brown wire) to the coil connection (r/w wire) to the ignitor connection (r/w wire) to the voltage regulator (r/w wire) to the starter relay (r/w wire). The wiring diagram is not clear on how the r/w wire gets to the voltage regulator so is of limited use. Make sure all connections are clean and tight, make sure the insulation on the wires is not worn to the point that the wire could ground. Try disconnecting the pickup from the circuit, it may be that a faulty pickup is causing the ignitor to keep the coil grounded and causing enough of a voltage drop to keep the starter relay from working. Hope all this helps.

Re: G9 has no spark
Ok. I found the most of the problem. There is a round connector with 3 wires going in and coming out. I ohmed out each wire and found that the white wire with black stripe was not making connection. I then spliced that wire with a butt connector and it fired right up!!! That explains the intermittent workingness?? Ha ha on the new word. I still have to remove one of the wires from the coil, spin it over, and reconnect wire to make it take off. Otherwise it will not turn over, trust me i know it sounds crazy. I am seriously thinking about just installing a switch to open the circuit to the coil, spin it over, then close the circuit via switch. Will that work?

Re: G9 has no spark
Great news! From the wiring diagram it looks like the three wire connector goes to the pickup assembly. I would investigate that a little bit more to rule out further problems with it as it is definatly connected to your problems with the coil and ignitor. The pickup affects the ignitor which in turn affects the coil.......... You are making good progress now.

Re: G9 has no spark
Yea thanks! I walked outside, turned up a 24oz Mt. Dew, slammed it, and immediatly started feeling the charge. By the time I walked into my barn, everything in front of me looked green, and i thought the binary code started falling from the sky, much like a scene fron the Matrix. At that point, I new i was in the zone. The charge has since left and I will resume as quickly as i can. Thanks to everyone. I will repost what I find. May resplice all 3 wires and eliminate that little harness.

Sounds good that connector may be the problem?
