Hot Hot Hot
So... I got a Yamaha G2 that is all stock... picked it up from a couple of older people still had the governor on it, and very clean. Anyway, the thing is running HOT. I have a White Sparky and need to rich it up! What to do and how to do it? Thank you all. By the way is there a main jet that I can buy that will adjust this?

Re: Hot Hot Hot
If this buggy is stock and running hot, you need to determine the cause and fix it, not cover it up by fiddling with the carb. Is there a mouse nest in the cooling system? Pull the shroud and check. Is there an intake leak or dirty carb causing it to run lean? Brakes dragging or stuck clutches causing the engine to work harder than normal? Check it out.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
I rag and rag I know, clean the carb.
Every little jet and passage needs to be cleaned and probed with torch cleaner tips. |

Re: Hot Hot Hot
Doomsman is right. "Cleaning" a carb means more than washing off the exterior. It means more than removing the float bowl and cleaning what is in there. It means a complete disassembly, blowing carb clean through the PASSAGES as well as the jets, gently probing the jets and orifices with a piece of fine wire or torch tip cleaner to insure there is no debris restricting the piece in question. Make sure carb clean will spray through the passages and come out the little holes in the bore of the carb (watch your eyes!) Many of these buggies are old, and corrosion is a concern as much as gum and dried gas. This is especially true now with ethanol gas. We replace a lot of carbs because the passages are corroded and plastic/ rubber parts damaged beyond repair.
Check your carb carefully! |

Re: Hot Hot Hot
Can you tell if everything is in place on the air intake, such as snorkel( before the filter) and foam prefilter over the filter? If not these machines will run lean with too much air to the intake.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
Have you checked the carb adjustments as per the owners manual? Try all the easy, basic stuff first. You don't want to create another problem for yourself. Let us know what you have done and the results of your inspections and or adjustments. Air leaks can be found by spraying starting fluid or some other combustible on the seals around the intake pipes. Be very carefull with starting fluid.
