Re: yamaha g1 carb?
If the carb is leaking fuel like you say it could be that the float level is set too high causing the flooding or your needle and seat is leaking causing fuel to get into the float bowel or your float is just covered up with crude so that it is being held down lower than normal or the float itself has a hole in it and is not bouyant. Before removing the carb i would check your idle mixture screw to make sure it is not backed out too far. Could be as simple as that.

Re: yamaha g1 carb?
The owners manual calls for a float height of 18mm and the pilot screw(idle mixture) out 1 turn.

Re: yamaha g1 carb?
You can put most any carburetor you want on your engine. It requires the skills, tools, and usually a selection of jets to properly tune the carb and make the engine run properly. If you are planning on modifying the engine for more power or speed, replacing the carb is standard hotrodding procedure. If you just want your buggy to work correctly, get a new replacement carb from one of our site sponsors and return it to stock condition. That route is usually cheaper as well.

Post some pix of your carb and get the numbers off it, so we can figure out what you have. We'll see if we can help you.
