Had a similar starting problem with an EZ-Go '91 Marathon Gas...it would run then but got progressively harder to start...had small holes in fuel line which drew a vacuum...it was had to detect but ended up drawing partial vacuum that was visible in the fuel filter...may not be the problem in your case but it had similar symptoms so I am posting the info just in case....

if all the above don't work double check the internal valve coming from the bowl into the intake. these like to strip very easily and could have been make shifted on with pipe tape or just barely in, it will cause it to only run for a short time also and then after you have all but given up it wll start again, if it is buy a new carb or get lictite GREEN thread locker. its just for carb problems. red will work but it will never come out again without a torch.

Mine did the same thing and progressively got worse. Finally getting to the point where it would only spit and sputter and run briefly in reverse. I tried everything including replacing the crankshaft seals. Mine had everything it was supposed to have spark, gas and compression but still would not run. Finally out of desperation I replaced the coil and it ran like it was new again. If you are good with and ohm meter you can test your coil to see if it's performing properly. Somewhere on this forum is a thread where someone takes you through it step by step.
