Default Shifter Stuck

I just got an extended (crew cab) Club Car and the shifter will only go into N and Reverse. Anyone have a suggestion?

Is it gas or battery powered?

Ok just noticed this was posted in gas club car section. Try removing shifter cable from transmission and see if the f n r lever moves freely.

Ok here is what I figured out. I I grab the shifter in the back I can shift it. It will shift into reverse from the front but it locks up when I try to shift to drive. From the back it seems the cable has to go through a small hole and binds up. Any ideas?

Take the cable out, hang it vertically in your garage, and spray PB Blaster at the top and let it soak down through overnight. Mine did almost the same thing last year except it was reverse that was the problem.

I could still get it into reverse, but not without getting off the cart, kneeling down next to it, and using the full leverage and strength of my arm to shift it. If I had let it get worse I'm sure I would have eventually broken the plastic shifter handle.

One night of PB Blaster soaking and it shifted great the next day.

I like to find a piece of rubber or preferably plastic clear tubing that fits over the outside of the able if possible and hose clamp it tight and fill this with oil or penetrant. The gravity feed method will let it trickle down into all the cable. It works mostly with throttle and choke cables though because the ends are small enough to get a piece of tubing over.
