Default How do I adjust a G1 governor?

I'm a new owner of an 86' G1. It is in great shape and I've started to fix it up. I'd like to get a little more top speed out of it since it will see some street time in Port Aransass Texas. I'm wondering if anyone can post a pic of what 10mm nut I should tighten/loosen? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The nut is attached to a bracket on the transaxle/rear end housing. Take a look back there you'll see it on top with the throttle linkage hooked to it. If you tighten the nut, it will raise the speed. you can also remove the bracket, drill out the hole (shaped like a "D") and reinstall it, this will effectively disable the governor.

G1 has a screw in the spring bracket on the trans, near the air intake hose. The screw pushes against the spring inside the bracket/arm. You can turn it all the way in, you can put a longer one in it, or you can clamp/vicegrip/maybe ziptie the other side of the spring to the bracket to disable it. I used small vicegrips make sure they clear the hose when throttled, but used that as a temporary thing. Issue is the extra pressure on the throttle cable shortens up the life of the cable, that is why you drill the hole out for the shaft so it spins on the trans. Add a return spring if needed and its all good you can get some great top speed out of them but are a little noisy.

I accidently broke mine off at the diff. (not recommended at all) . luckily the shft part stays in and doesn't leak. Just used a simple 90 degree piece of angle stock , mounted the cable on the other side of carb and removed the ball and got another pin like on the choke and am good to go. Ours actually smooths out and runs very quiet at full throttle. Even sold the old parts on Ebay and made $30.00.
