Here's a pic of my setup described in my previous post. You can see the rubber bushing that should be fitted over the tab to cushion it against the frame:

Good stuff guys. I really appreciate the info. I have a couple toys to get out of the garage before I can play with this one. Promised the wife :)

Definitely wasn't a stuck float so I pulled the motor. Found evidence that this motor was definitely taken apart before. Found the piston rings not clocked properly with the oil ring gaps lines up. Installed new piston and rings and new gaskets. Now she won't start. I am not getting 12v to the white wire on the solenoid when I push the gas pedal. I can jump the solenoid and she cranks. Bad solenoid? Neutral switch? Any diagnoses ideas?

Also before I pulled the motor I installed a factory air box and she ran much better. It still had oil coming out of the exhaust and fuel in the oil though.

You're probably in maintenance mode. Grab that little yellow plastic cam on the backside of the shifter, pull it out, and rotate it 180 degrees. It should start after you do that. Maybe while you were working around it you inadvertently moved that cam.

I ended up figuring it out late last night. It was in maintenance mode.

Before I pulled the motor I could start this thing in fwd, neutral, or reverse? Now it will only start in fwd or reverse. From what I understand this is how they come from the factory but is there a way I can start it in all three gears again?

If you look at the picture I posted earlier, I believe that if you unplug the green and white wires from the neutral lock-out switch and connect them together, it should bypass the shifter switch and let you run the motor in all gears.

Here's the wiring diagram:
