Ok here is the culprit. Can't find any numbers or anything on it the rusted peice is just aplastic sleeve

First off, I know this is a very old thread, and I apologize for reviving it, but this was the only thread I could find about it, and I thought this might be interesting for those discussing this before:

I recently acquired a gas 1995 DS and found this exact same problem, and I also have the plastic bracket, but only on one side. The other one is metal.

My serial number starts with AG9542. I wonder if a few of these got plastic ones originally or if the plastic ones were aftermarket replacements that somebody was selling at some point.

Something else I found interesting when looking for the part number is that the parts list for the 1995 model is incorrect for the accelerator pedal assembly. The spring in particular is entirely different, but so are some of the other pieces. The 1996 manual has the correct parts, so I wonder if later 1995 models got the new design early?
