I've noticed in my carts with big heavy dump beds (ezgo workhorse, and a CC carryall) the engine noise is a lot quieter than in a regular cart. The difference between my old TXT and Workhorse (both have Robins engine) is HUGE. You couldn't hear yourself think in the TXT, as where the workhorse is much, much quieter. The hum from the intake was louder than the motor.

It may take a bit of work, but perhaps dynamat or something equivalent on the inside of the body would quiet it down a good bit? (similar to a 400lb aluminum dump bed vs. thin layer of plastic body)

Ultimately, nothing is going to be nearly as quiet as an electric cart. I wouldn't go swapping around mufflers or anything, doubt you'd get much of a noticeable difference out of it. Best thing you can do is try to insulate the engine from the passenger compartment and keep all the noise down below you.

The Subaru EFI motor is the quietest motor I've heard in a Club car.

Yamaha makes one that's quieter but it's got a ton of sound absorbing material around the engine compartment and panels all the way under the bottom so the compartment is almost totally closed. They also have an enormous muffler setup.
