Re: runs hot
I am not sure how you adjust the timing on these carts, but, in general, if your timing is too far advanced, it will "ping" (which is really a early detonation in your combustion chamber) under acceleration. That can also cause a engine to run hot, esp. an air cooled engine in hot weather.
Did you set the timing a little advanced looking for better performance? A little can help, too much will give you poor performance and it can run hot or damage your motor. |

Re: runs hot
These motors have no timing advance system ...they are like a lawn mower engine.

Re: runs hot
or a spark plug with the wrong heat range, did you up your heat range on your plug? I don't think it would ping directly from that, but, once the internal temp started to get too high, you could start to get predetonation simply from the extra heat combined with the compression.
How about lots of weed seeds or dust plugging air flow over cooling fins? Be careful, I would not run this much till you resolve it, you could mess up that motor faster then you think running hot. |

Re: runs hot
iF YOU ARE RUNNING IT HOT TILL IT STARTS TO LOOSE POWER YOU ARE GOING TO KILL THAT MOTOR! also, better to run with valve lash too loose then too tight, esp on the exhaust side, you could burn a valve, you would also show loss of power as it got hot and the valve stem got just a tiny bit longer because of the heat, and gave you even less clearance. I don't know what the valve lash is on these, but, give yourself a few extra thousands and try it. also, what about the other questions we asked?
