Re: G2 Engine Issue
Best thing to do is rip the fuel filter out of that screw on thing and put an inline filter in. Its alot less hassel. Then you can change it with out having to drain the tank and you can see if its pluged.

Re: G2 Engine Issue
True, but I have not changed mine since '99 when I got my cart. I did put a filter before the carb though, mostly so I could see the fuel.

Re: G2 Engine Issue
My car is running the same one that was on it when I bought it. I bet its 20 yrs. old! I did wash it out with gas tho. when I washed out the tank with water. Had the tank out of the car to do that.

Re: G2 Engine Issue
ok... dumped the old oil and put one quart of new oil back in. Also changed out the fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug. Also took bowl off carb and everything that I could see inside the carb looked clean, but sprayed in a generous amount of carb cleaner just to be safe. Also put in fresh gas. Adjusted screw w/spring on carb as recommended. Checked cable from gas pedal to the carb and that's working fine too. Started it up, and it still does the EXACT SAME THING!!! When the accelerator is all the way down engine cuts out for half a second and then starts again. If I keep the pedal half way down, it runs smoothly. Exhaust sounds a little funky when the engine is revving on and off too... So far, lots of work... no results. Any new suggestions out there??? Bad fuel pump maybe???

Re: G2 Engine Issue
Well, Chrisnin, this is getting interesting...
You have a clean fuel system, but we're still not sure about the inside of the carb. You might consider disassembling it and dipping it in carb cleaner. It's actually an easy little carb to rebuild. But first: Pull the fuel hose from the carb inlet, stick it in a container that will hold gas, and crank the engine. You should get a good series of spurts. Check the hose going from the engine to the fuel pump for any oil. There should be none. Was there a decent amount of gas in the bowl when you removed it from the carb? Check the wiring connections at the ignitor (on the fuel tank, near the fuel pump), and at the engine connectors. There is a 3-wire plug for the ignition pick-up, 2 wires at the coil, and 1 at the bottom for the oil level switch. Check for continuity between the negative battery post and the engine block - the engine is grounded through the black wire in the 3-wire plug. Hopefully, your ignitor is good. It controls ignition timing and high speed cut-off (electronic governor). We'll get this figured out! |

Re: G2 Engine Issue
Another thing to check, take the primary clutch cap off and check for broken or loose wieight links. Can cause the same "cut off" symptom like the ignition (ignitor) rev limiter kicking in.

Re: G2 Engine Issue
Thanks Steve. Yes, there was a good amount of gas in the carb when I removed the bowl. I'll try taking it apart as you suggested. I think that it still probably the most likely culprit because it seems like plenty of fuel is making it to the carb. It just looked like it would be fairly difficult to take it completely apart and remove it, but I'll give it a shot. If that fails, I'll start checking the wiring. Thanks again... I'll keep you posted on any progress or lack thereof!

Re: G2 Engine Issue
Ok, I'll try that too... and the primary clutch cap is located where?
