Well thats it, got to have compression to have power. Just strange that it would run with 85 psi. In the automotive world, 125 is the min for it to fire. Thanks for the help!!!

I did recheck my compression and is around 155 psi. This is what I know, has low power, backfires on decel and stops, does have moderate sludge in the engine. This is what Ive done so far, replaced the carb and new base, new electric fuel pump, clean fuel and new filter. Can bad crank seals be the problem???

LOL! But who's keeping track....uh...well, my sorry ***. Sorry.

But you are right about the possible leaks....ditto!
LOL! you got me!

Backfiring would be a lean condition. These carts will run lean if the airbox has a leak in it make sure the cover is on tight and its assembled properly. If this is the case (a leak) usually they will run ok with the choke part way on. They are very sensitive to this unlike a B&S for example. Do not mod the airbox for more flow. If the box is messed up you have to jet the carb richer with a jet or drill or file the jet larger. Should check plug color after running it harder. Idle mix can be richened to take care of backfires when you let off the gas, but it is a sign something is messed up and you need to find out what. Also make sure the carb does not open before the engine starts, adjust the throttle cable if needed. That can make for hard starting and backfires when you try to run it slowly.

Im sure the throttle plate is fully closed and also have a good seal on the air box. Ive been working as an auto technician for 22 years, built race car engines and built several hot rods. Currently dropped a LS6 in my 88 Z28. Now have this golf cart kicking my ***! Just never worked on small engines. I completely believe its a lean condition or timing issue.Any other ideas would be helpful.
