Starter not working diagnosis question
1998 club car gas carryall.
Starter was working yesterday. Replaced battery with new one from wally world. ( Old one had less than one volt had to use jumper from car.) Strong click from solenoid in f and r. Power to all contacts on starter when trying to start except yellow. ( voltage regulator?) Tried turning a bit by hand- no action again. Tried positive battery jump to white wire- no action. Connected f2 to a1- nada. Made sure all connections were clean and tight. Nope. Ohm checked all contacts to starter body no continuity. Removed and disasembled starter. Brushes looked excellent, cleaned stator with eraser and a little 600 grit. Here are the pics. Re- assembled. Nothing. Do I have to get a new starter or rebuild this turkey? Any input would be appreciated. |

Re: Starter not working diagnosis question
one thing you need to make sure of is the screws that hold the wire on at end of brushes the phillips head......make sure those square peices arn,t touching starter case anywhere just the slightest touch and starter will not work other then that what i see looks in good shape......have you taken armature out and looked at the part thats bolted to the case.....cripes i can,t think of the name but the part that surrounds the armature when its in there........................................

Re: Starter not working diagnosis question
I nominate myself for the bonehead of the month award!!
Ground wire from starter to new battery is the other wire that connects to the negative terminal on the battery!! One of the disadvantages of working on carts late at nite is not being able to see as well with a light as with daylight. Everything is resolved and life is good again. |
