Default 1986 club car gas won't shift lever won't go in forward

That's right, the shift lever feels very still/restricted when shifting from neutral to forward. it feels like you have to force something, and since I don't want to, I haven't. It won't go into the forward position completely.

It does go into reverse though...

This is a separate issue from the fuel problems I have been having...

Take the cable off at the transaxle (it's just a spring-loaded ball & socket) and shift the lever by hand to see if it still has trouble shifting. If it shifts easy, you have a binded-up or worn-out shifter cable, which is pretty common.

I disconnected the shift linkage, and the lever moves smoothly. The arm coming off of the transmission appears to be what is "restricted" somehow internally.....
Am I going to have to dissassemble the tranny?

Check this thread out. I've heard that you can try and slam the gears to break it loose.

I also have a buddy (PB00 is his name on here) who had this issue with one of his '87 rearends, I remember him not having to take it apart completely to get it to go into gear, but he did have it out of the cart when he did the fix. I'll ask him about it.

Ooo, I'll have to try that. It sounds weird, but I'm willing to give it a shot. :)

Well I finally got around to looking at the problem and it seems it persists even when trying that reverse full speed into forward trick.

It acts weird in reverse too. It will rev up a bit past idle and then reverse will take off kind of suddenly, not gently like it used to....

So any kind of methodology on tackling this problem? Shall I pull the transmission apart? (yikes)

Also, where are the plugs for filling and draining fluid?

I see that there is a sticky post here http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...84-2005-a.html

with lots of diagrams, but I can't click on any of them. imageshack just intercepts and gives me a weird pic of an owl...
