Programming Curtis Controller

Just made a pic, this clears things up I guess.

The interface you show does not have a 5V wire attached. The interface can NOT be powered by the comport.

In the plan I drew one can see there is a 78l05 used to make 5V from the 12V provided by the curtis connector.
The Max232 is similar like your board. The extra part is the 7404 to invert the data signals.



I actually used a kenwood programming interface (KPG-4 by some hongkong ebay seller) and added the 7404

I used this on my desktop PC and laptop via an USB to RS-232 convertor.
It works great with my controller.

Glad to be able to help.

I don't know the original interface, but as far as I could see and measure this should be the way to do it.

We now have at least two confirmed working.

As I understand also Monsterezgokid will try his controller, of which he feared he had fried the serial port. I hope his will also work afterall.

This might be intresting, a minimum of parts.

I just received this board from an e-bay seller.



It uses an FT232RL to convert to RS232 (TTL) signals. But not yet inverted. A program FT-prog can be used to configure this chip.
All data outputs can be inverted!

There are other chips like FT232BM and PL2303 which can do the same tricks, but they acquire an external eeprom. (if you can find a cheaper board with a chip like this and an eeprom on-board it could work as well).

I have already programmed my FT232RL, but not yet soldered an old PC-supply connector to it. I have to find an old power supply, or order a cable on ebay or so, which converts old power supply to the new square molex connector.

Hope to inform you soon if this works well.

have tried some days now and it works very nice
it takes about 30sec to connect controller
did you card connects fast or you also need to wait some time ?

i use a old satellite TV pirate card ;)

not so nice but works perfect :)

Yes, it takes some time when connecting, maybe about 20 seconds. Quite a lot of data seems to be transferred.
Once you have a connection, you can monitor and see faults real time.

I tried my USB board, but the inverted in and outputs by programming the chip did not work, maybe some pull up/down resistors need to be added.

I wondered how to connect to the can bus, should I be able to use a RS485 interface on the canbus?
I have newer worked with canbus.

Does this replace the 1309 Interface Box or is it simply a way to connect via USB. I have a cable with a DB9 one end and Molex the other but it won't connect. I'm assuming that this little box of tricks will provide what's missing.

This is like the interface box.
9-pin sub-d comport, to square molex.

To use tis on a USB port one needs a USb to serial (comport) converter.
