Default What's This In My Fuel?!??

1997 CC Carryall stalled out on me yesterday and would not fire. Spark was fine, seemed like the fuel filter was clogged. Replaced it. Not it. Checked the bowl in the carb & found this: (See pic) cleaned it up now it's running fine. This is the second time this has happened and it's the same deposits in the fuel bowl. Any idea what this stuff is? It has an almost jelly-like consistancy?

Non ethanol fuel if you can find it where you are.

We have had good luck with "SeaFoam", liquid. Use a little in all gas engines here and all of my gas stuff on the farm. We use a lot of the aerosol seafoam on carts that come in with a gummy carb. Use Marvel Mystery Oil in all of my diesel machinery.

Fuel line shut off valve. If it's going to sit for a period of time, run it outa gas.

'Zack'ly what ya need!
Turn it off and run it till it runs out of gas.
This is why I put a shutoff in my Toro. If it sits more than a couple weeks.
CA. has crappy gas so I learned this on a gas gen we had. It had a shutoff but I never ran it out of gas to keep the carb clean.... now I do on both gens we have. I use SeaFoam in my diesel but never used it in a gas motor.

if you put one ounce of seafoam per gallon of gas that will not happen.

That looks like rubber from the inside of your fuel hoses. Take them off and inspect the inside of the hose. If you have enough length, cut off a few inches and split it open and look at the inside of the hose. Do you have a fuel filter inline, before the carb.? If not, get one and also put one in front of the fuel pump.
Berryman's B12 Chemtool works much better than Seafoam and only costs $2.89 compared to $9.99 for Seafoam.
