Clutch problem?
Last night the wife & her girlfriend were roddin around the neighborhood in the cart & I guess twice it acted up. She brought it home & I took it out for a minute. Bascially when it gets up to about 10 or 12 mph, something is buzzing/vibrating from the rear..... like something is out of balance & spinning out of control. Plus it is affecting the carts acceleration. It was tough to diagnose at night, driving, when I can't see much, especially under the seat. But as I look things over, nothing looks out of place or broken. Other than the belt seems really loose now. I'm wondering if one of the clutches as failed on me.
Some time ago I installed the CPP clutch springs in both clutches. I noticed at the time that the ramps in the clutch on the rear end (driven?) were pretty worn. And the cart has been rode pretty hard since, topping out at like 23 or 24 mph, hauling 3 or 4 or 5 of us at time, and last night it was pushing 100 degrees out. So how do I go about testing the clutches? Put the rear up on jack stands? Measure belt deflection? Call Tom? Thanks for any tips you guys can throw out. I'll take a look at it this evening & report back. |

Put the rear up on jack stands?
Try to isolate the source of the sound and then what is causing it. You may have a broken engine mount. |

Re: Clutch problem?
Thanks Dooms. I'm hoping to get it up on jack stands later tonite or tomorrow.
ArenaBowl tonite though. Only game this dinky town has so I gotta take advantage. |

Re: Clutch problem?
Well the Shock won it all..... and the after game party was nutty as can be!
Finally got the cart up on jack stands & watched it run. The only thing I can really notice, two things I guess. The belt is ridiculously loose when stopped. And something gives off a squeek when you let off the gas & the engine comes to a stop. But couldn't really determine anything wrong. |

Re: Clutch problem?
Grab the engine when its cold and yank on it
to see if its loose. Get the driven clutch off and inspect the helix and wear buttons. |

Re: Clutch problem?
Well the motor is in there solid. I grabbed it a few different ways & tried to move it & I doubt it's a motor mount.
I got side tracked before I pulled the clutch off though. I'll get that this evening. |

Re: Clutch problem?
Got the driven clutch out & apart. It doesn't look much different than when I put the CPP spring in it last winter. Ramps are a bit worn. THe half of the clutch that slides back & forth seems like it wobbles a bit on the shaft. Nothing really jumps out at me.
