blowby and oil in air box
i recently noticed my g 9 losing power and running hot and found very little oil in crankcase and oil in the air box. i filled with oil and cleaned the air box and ran the motor with cart in neutral and oil will start dripping from the hose that goes from the valve cover to the air box. this is with the hose disconnected at the airbox.i checked all hoses to make sure none were blocked . i suspected blowby and ran a compression test and had a reading of 160 lbs. so i'm lost as to what my problem could be. the only thing i have done recently was to change to synthetic oil (10w-30). could this have cause it to pump oil from engine into airbox ? how does the pressure escape from the crankcase ? thanks in advance for any replies.

i don't know if it is related to your motor, but i did the same thing, switch to syn. oil, it started using oil like crazy, soo bad it would foul the plug in 30min, and SMOKED bad

Only one quart of oil in motor! Putting more in is usually the cause.

Re: blowby and oil in air box
I spoke to Dan (not Don), who works for Plowman's. I told him I'd cranked the governor on my cart (G16a Yamaha) to increase the RPM's. He told me that without modifying the air filter and box, the crankcase pressure would go up and cause oil to be pushed into the airbox. I don't know if the same applies to your G9.

I had the same thing happening with my G9 and now it's knocking like crazy and smoking. It was locked up, but will run now. What was your end result?

Re: blowby and oil in air box
Its usually too much oil or blowby. I took my line off for a while and soon enough it started to smoke a little and burn oil. I've run synthetic in it since '99 its an original engine. The other cart bought then did the same thing a year sooner on normal oil, just worn out. That is why I finally got my clone running yesterday, is working nice so far. I put thicker oil in and it still smoked some, it did not matter it was shot. Synthetic tends to be a little thinner so it will leak past things easier. Also with these the oil ring goes first (G9s) so they burn oil yet still run ok. Mine would get a little weak when it was really hot out.

Re: blowby and oil in air box
Thanks for the info. I'm building a home right now, so I thought I'd cheat and ask you guys and I didn't have to waste a lot of time that I don't have:0 I'd much rather be riding the cart!
