Default G1 starter/generator not charging enough

i have an 84 G1 with a fairly new starter/generator that the last owner installed and i've done some driving with it untill it started draining the batt while i was driving. it was putting out about 11.85 to 11.95 depending on rpm. i found that the red and green wires from the voltage reg are not hooked up! i have wiring diagrams but they don't show what posts to put them on. hoping someone could pass me a clue! a picture of your running G1 would do...thanx

Voltage regulator wiring for your G1 as follows:

R/W wire to D+
Grn wire to Df (I think this is the center term.)
Blk wire to D-
(Not 100% sure here, but I think the tabs on the regulator are marked.)

Starter/gen output should be 14.5 v plus or minus .5volts. Maybe the wires are disconnected for a reason, so better check that the regulator is working ok. Good luck - RAY

they're hooked up to the volt reg, but not to the gen. the gen does have a df for the green wire but there's no marking for the red wire (red wire comes from r/w wire on volt reg according to diagram & i confirmed in loom). the gen has f1, f2, a1, a2, & df...but no d+ marking for the red wire coming from the volt reg. i just am not sure where the red goes on the gen...wiring diagram just shows red and green going to the gen with a looped electrical symbol.

The flying club I belong to has a G1 and I'll have a look at it the next time I go out. My cart is a G16 so is probably different. [For some reason I thought the starter generators just have red and green wires coming out into a two position connector (and not terminals)]. I'll let you know what I find. In the meantime you should keep that battery on a charger. - RAY

Went out to the flying field and looked at our cart. It was like I thought, a red and a green wire coming out of a grommet and each one had a connector on it. Heres a picture I took with my camera. You can see the red and green wire and it goes into the generator through a rubber grommet (which you can't see). Hope that helps - RAY
