Re: High Speed Gear Install Info
What could one expect out of the HS gears? Ive got to find a way to get more speed out of my cart, without making a Vegas Carts purchase lol. I’ve already adjusted the governor and put a shorter drive belt on, however belt only has maybe 5hrs of drive time on it so far. Besides MPH estimates, is there any real difference between 6:1 and 8:1?
Edit: its a 2007 ST350. Stock 4” factory lift with 22” tires |

If you ride with 4 people, heavy, or in steep hills with larger tires you may not have enough HP. More gear will also slow your hole shot, will get up to speed slower Your smaller belt slowed you down! Its not long enough to rise to the top of the clutch. |

Re: High Speed Gear Install Info
The shorter belt versus top speed comparison includes a caveat. If the belt is too long it won't drop far enough down into the driven clutch, which reduces top speed also. Too short and yes, it won't climb to the top of the drive clutch which will reduce top speed.
If the cart isn't used for pink slip drag racing or escaping dangerous large animals from a standing start the hole shot is of lesser importance. A shorter drive belt may help both low end and top speed (a little) but it will help low end. As far as 6:1 or 8:1 gears unless you really want high top end and or low engine rpm at cruising speed then the 8:1 is probably a better choice. If you have swapped in a non-stock higher HP engine then the 6:1 could be usable. But that will result in a top speed that may not be used. In my case I have a 23hp VC625 and I want lower rpm at cruising speeds. No drag racing nor high speed runs at Bonneville Salt Flats. |
