Default ?? Installing Lunette Rings

Hey folks I'm looking for some ideas (advice) in installing lunette rings on the front frame of my 2002 Gas EZGO. These lunettes will be used to attach my tie down straps to after loading the cart onto my trailer.

The cart has a lift kit and after pondering this problem for a while I determined that the easiest and cleanist installation method would be to drill a single hole through the lower portion of the shock extention close to where it attachs to the front axle.

My question is: If I do drill these holes (3/4") will the integrity of the shock extentions be in danger? If so, any other ideas for tie down rings?

Thanks!

A 3/4 hole in a 1 1/2 strap is a 50% reduction in size and strength...

Thanks for the response scottyb.

I agree with you that the strength would be reduced by 50%, but only if the hole were to be left empty. The question is: How much strength would be returned to the strap if the lunette was installed? And, would it be enough to maintain the integrity of the strap to perform it's job?

Thanks for the response cuzky.

Here lies the predicament cuzky, I don't have a tow loop installed on the front of my cart. I was looking to go the less expensive route and not buy the front reciever and accompanig tow loop. Besides I was thinking that the lunettes would look better, ie like a lifted 4x4!!! I am however limited in the number of ways (in my mind ) of places to install them without doing damage to the integrity of the shock strap.

Would you post a closeup pic of your setup?

Thanks!

Nevermind on the pic cuzky. I followed your avatar link and found pics of your cart. The only way to do that type of loop on my cart would be to have someone weld them on. That might be my last option.
