Default Carburetor spit gas

This workhorse belongs to a customer. They run the tar out of it 12 hrs a day..... it quit while running full speed. Never offered so much as a pop again.... when I first looked at it there was fuel in the intake hose from trying to start it. Everytime you cranked the engine over, fuel would spit out of the carburetor intake! .... I loaded it up and once back at the shop, here is what I found.... 1800 hrs on the cart & it had a broken timing belt.
You don't see that everyday..... belt was badly checked in several places. You gotta pull the clutch to get the timing belt cover off. You can remove the clutch with the motor in the cart if you unbolt the front motor mount bracket and jack the front of the engine up enough to get the bolt off and the puller in there
Hope this helps

I bet the valves messed up and either bent or not seating properly.. that's why its spitting gas. All a result of that timing belt and millions of hours without replacement.. ouch.. poor little engine :(

When I did my 350/295 build my timing was off by 2 teeth. It was doing the same thing, there was gas spitting into my airfilter out of my carb! EEEK!! Good thing it didn't backfire!!

That's about how Sprinkles burnt the barn down and the Razor up ..... I hope it didn't do any real damage like the other guy said?

No it didn't these engines are non-interference eng. I have done 2 belts in teh last 3 mths for breakage and both were 1400 plus hours and run 6-8 hrs a day.

Is there a rough miles to hours factor for carts? we used to figure an hour was about 100 miles with our ski boats.

Ive never seen a belt go on any of our fleet of 300. Of the some that have hourmeters they go as high as 12-1300 hours. Some of the older models may have done more? I shall miss the good old Robin engine.

I have seen robins motors going on 4500 hrs with what looks like no disassembly.... all of the belts on this carts are checked and there is grass cuttings in the fan shroud so I'm wondering about a hear problem?

OK I replaced the timing belt, adjusted the valves. Compression check 160-165. Changed the oil and she runs like a top
