99 DS smokes out the exhaust... Help
I did a compression test years back when it smoked and got 160 psi.
It does consume oil also and smokes white. It does have power, speed and torque. I don't think it's the rings. What else can I look into to see where the oil is coming from & into the combustion chamber. Also, I recall pulling the air intake and saw no oil before the throttle blades. Maybe I need to double check again or...... Does anyone think maybe its a valve guide, maybe a seal needs replacing? Anyone think or know some thing else to help me with this? |

Valve seals are leaking or your oil ring is collapsed. If the other two rings are good it will still show compression.

Ok, how can I tell if the valve guide seals are bad on the engine?
This would be the cheapest & easiest way to eliminate any doubt if its the seals. If not then it may be that ring.... *** & it would be my luck.... but ill pull the jug if I have to, another day... |

Oil rings are bad. Even with no valve seals they use little oil. Some small engines don't even run them on the exhaust valve. Easy motors to rebuild though

Hmm, looks like I may have to pull it and get parts then to rebuild the top.

Remember it will probably smoke some after the rebuild. Burning that oil out of the exhaust. Easy rebuild. Day job. If you don't have the clucth puller I just use a 1/4" socket extension cut done to the right length. I've pulled 20+ clutches that away.

Do I have to pull the clutch to rebuild just the top?
