Re: Motor Sparking after Outdoor Storage
I'm with Raystar, the battery is toast but the motor may be salvaged.

Re: Motor Sparking after Outdoor Storage
Spray them down with penetrating lubricant real good and work them in the guides.
They should free up. Polish the brushes and guides with some 1600 paper. Clean with a contact cleaner and install in the guide. They must move easily and if not then you may need new brushes and guide plate. Post a pic of the armature commutator area so we can see how bad it is. Some can be cleaned up with sanding and some need a motor shop to turn true. I can't seem to find info on the D&D motor ES-9H-50 or 50(R). I would call them to get some info on the motor. Other members may have some input on the motor. I think you have found the issue and generally it is repairable. |

Re: Motor Sparking after Outdoor Storage
It is a 6v. I just noticed I originally put this on wrong thread. I have 2 club cars, used to searching here. This is a crappy star cart with qty 8- 6v batts. I upgraded to this motor few years ago and still dissapointed- something always wrong.
I cant get the dang brush out. Its crumbling. I oiled and tried everything. My friend thought I would destroy the brush by putting oil on it, so I only tried the one. I am going to wait on another response from D&D before trying others and then taking it to local repair shop. Thank you for all the advice- if anyone else has another secret to getting them out, I might as well try. |

Re: Motor Sparking after Outdoor Storage
If the armature commutator can be reasonably cleaned up,
I think you should get a new brush guide plate and a new brush set. The guide plates may have warped due to excessive current through the brushes caused by a motor stall or high torque overload. Brushes may have been distorted also. Post some pics of the armature and brush plate. I would think it could be close to $250 for plate, brush set, bearing and to have the commutator trued by a motor shop. |
