Default DS 2002 electric spins wheels when it starts

Had not used the cart in a couple months, and it has been sitting on the charger.

When I got it out a few days ago it would not ease off gradually, but spins a tire (on the gravel driveway). It never did that before, it would start gradually. Once rolling it drives and stops normally. I don't want to let the grandkids drive it until I sort this problem out.

Any ideas? Maybe the F-R switch?

Spinning indicates the controller has a problem...when you said you left the charger on for an extended period of time...have you checked the battery water? You may have boiled the batteries dry...need to check that right away.😎

I was told to leave the charger on all the time and it shuts itself off automatically. I was told on this and other forums to keep it on the charger even if I only use it for a few minutes, and that it will keep the batteries charged without damage and prolong their life. I hope I did not ruin them.

I'll check the controller.

You want to put some run time on the batteries before you charge them

Yes, you want to keep that on a charger when not in use. It will come on periodically to top the batts which is what you want.

Hey guys...the early DS charger is not designed to be left on the batteries for “several months”. Usually extended non-use requires the charger be replaced with a battery maintainer or simply disconnect the main negative battery cable and then go back and charge after sitting for 3 weeks or so. Continuous charging will eventually boil all the water out of the batteries with the early charging system even though it has an OBC. THIS IS BASED ON EXPERIENCE.

Hello and thanks for the replies.
It has been cold and very very wet here on the farm, so no need for the golf cart. But it has warmed up and dried up, so yesterday I tried the cart again.

I tried pressing the drive pedal repeatedly with the key off. But that made no difference.

When I drove it it lurched off at high speed, spun the wheels. I drove it a while and it runs fine at higher speeds but will not run slow or creep along. Starts off with a very strong jump. So I can't let the grandkids drive it
Seems like it is the control mechanism??????

I am open to ideas. Thanks for your help. I will be back with a battery charging question later.

Serial Number AA0220-149799 if that helps with the diagnosis

Did you check the water in the batteries as suggested?
