I'm a fan of the Admiral A4 but it probably won't get you the top speed you are looking for. I believe flat it maxes around 28 to 30mph with 23" tires. For me that's fast enough but the big advantage is the torque. It'll help a lot in my hilly neighborhood and any other time I may need it.

Agreed. And that is a "big" motor in regards to the amount of windings and should last a lifetime of "normal" usage....

The FSIP A3 or PQ Executioner. You can also call up PQ and talk to their tech group.

The Admiral A4 is a big motor and I know they have field maps to make it run really fast, check into that too!

How would you keep (any) motor from exploding at the rpm's required to hit 35 mph (with standard gearing in the transaxle)?

I would have thought he would need to install (at least) 8:1 gears with a big motor to avoid creating a grenade at 35 mph!
